Event and Workshop Descriptions:
CAREER FAIRS - Two career fairs are held annually during the fall and spring semesters. The career fairs are free to students, alumni, and registered employers. Business attire is required and will be strictly enforced. It is strongly recommended for students to attend the career fair prep workshops offered or make an appointment with Counseling and Career Services. Also, students and alumni should come prepared with copies of their resume.
STRESS FREE WEEK - Four days of activities to de-stress and teach relaxation techniques. May include: Stress-Free Zone, Recess on the Quad, and 5-Minute Vacation Destination.
Making a "Major" Career Decision - What do you want to be when you grow up? This workshop is designed to assist attendees with exploring their interests, values, and skills, and using this knowledge to find a career that best fits their personality.
Depression and the College Student - Depression among college students is very common. Signs and symptoms of depression are often overlooked or misunderstood. This workshop will assist the attendee with identifying symptoms of depression and learn effective coping skills for symptom management. This workshop will include a free depression screening for interested individuals.
Suicide Awareness - Sept. 8-14, 2013, is National Suicide
Prevention Week. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college
students and the number one cause of suicide is untreated depression. This
workshop will raise awareness of symptoms depression and suicide and how to
get help for someone in need.
Resumes and Interviewing - Workshop attendees will learn how to write exceptional resumes and develop practical interviewing skills to get that awesome job or internship. This workshop is also designed to prepare Dalton State students for the Career Fair and other Career Fair events.
Don't Freak Out: Managing Stress in College - This workshop will assist the attendee with recognizing problem stress and learn valuable coping skills to manage it.
