eMajor Benefits

Benefits for Students who Enroll in eMajor Include:

Transferability of Courses

Credits earned in eMajor courses will transfer to institutions within the University System of Georgia (view map) and to most other colleges and universities. However, before registering for an eMajor course, consult your campus advisor to determine if courses fit your chosen major’s program of study.

Affordable Tuition Rate

Tuition for eMajor classes is $250 per credit hour. This tuition rate is the same for either Georgia resident or non-resident students. Additional expenses include textbooks, course materials, test proctoring charges, and technology fees. Students do not pay activity or parking fees unless they register for both eMajor and traditional on-campus classes within the same semester.

Accredited Courses

eMajor courses are offered by several institutions within the USG. These institutions are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Convenience and Flexibility

eMajor is designed to expand a student's educational experience by providing learning opportunities that are more flexible and accessible.

Although eMajor classes are taught online, they are not like independent study or self-paced courses where students work by themselves or at their own pace. Each eMajor course has a syllabus and schedule to follow over a period of 8 to 15 weeks.

Courses follow the traditional academic semester calendar; therefore, students cannot start and stop classes at any time. Students also are expected to participate in the course on a regular basis and interact with the instructor and other students in the course. Participation is defined by the instructor, and typically includes completing assignments, working on group projects, taking exams, and posting email comments. The eMajor classes are very similar to traditional on-campus classes, with the exception that the courses are taught online.

Highly Qualified Instructors

All faculty members are employed by institutions in the University System of Georgia and are nominated by their institutions to teach eMajor classes. Current eMajor faculty members include leaders in innovative teaching practices and published researchers as well as several emeritus professors and current academic department chairs. These faculty members are committed to offering superior online instruction and to improving access to higher education in Georgia and throughout the world.

Accessible Course Design

Courses comply with ADA and Section 508 requirements to accommodate students with disabilities or special needs.
