Verification of Lawful Presence

In accordance with Board of Regents Policy 4.3.4, all applicants who are accepted for admission or readmission to Dalton State for Fall 2011, or any academic semester, thereafter, and who seek to be classified as in-state for tuition purposes, will be required to provide verification of lawful presence in the United States. Applicants who seek to be classified as in-state for tuition purposes must provide one of the following un-expired documents.

  • Certified U.S. Birth Certificate showing the student was born in the U.S. or a U.S. territory
    • Photocopy provided by the applicant is not acceptable
  • U.S Certificate of Naturalization (USCIS form N-550 or N-570) • U.S. Certificate of Citizenship (USCIS form N-560 or N-561)
  • U. S. Certificate of Birth Abroad issued by the Department of State (DS-1350) or a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240) • Current U. S. Passport
  • Current Driver’s License/ID issued by the State of Georgia after January 1, 2008
    • Limited term license of a license issued for a period of less than two years is not acceptable
  • Current Military ID (service member only, not dependent)
  • Current, valid Permanent Resident Card (USCIS for I-151 or I-551)

Dalton State accepts copies of all documents except the certified U. S. birth certificate. Documents listed above (except the certified U.S. birth certificate) can be sent via email as an attachment to the Office of Admission (admissions@daltonstate.edu). Original certified U.S. birth certificates must be mailed to the Office of Admission.

Positive verification does not guarantee in-state classification for tuition purposes. All students applying for in-state tuition classification must also meet the requirements outline in Board of Regents Policy 4.3.2, Classification of Students for Tuition Purposes. For non citizens, this may include providing additional documentation to show that they are a lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or other eligible non citizen as defined by the Federal Title IV regulations as eligible for consideration for in-state tuition classification, per Board of Regents Policy 4.3.2.3, Non-Citizens.
