BEGINNING FRESHMAN

An applicant who has graduated from high school or passed the GED will be classified as a freshmen student. Traditional freshmen have attended an accredited high school within the last five years.  A freshman may have college credit from another institution, but it is fewer than 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours. Non-traditional freshmen have been out of high school for more than five years.

To apply, students should submit the following items:

  • A Completed Dalton State College Application for Admissions - application is available online or in print

  • Application fee
    - $20 if online application is submitted; $30 if paper application is submitted

  • Certificate of Immunization

  • Official High School Transcript

  • COMPASS Exam scores for placement purposes

An applicant will be exempt from the COMPASS Exam if they have:

  • SAT Math score of 500 or higher and SAT Verbal Score of 450 or higher
  • ACT Math score of 21 or higher and SAT Verbal score of 19 or higher
  • Completed English 1101 with a “C” or better and College Algebra with a “C” or better
