Advising and Registration |
- Please schedule an advising appointment ahead of
time. Making an appointment will guarantee that
you will get to speak to someone at the time of
your arrival.
- If you have questions for your advisor, write
them down and bring them with you to your
appointment.
- If you are considering changing your major,
transferring, or withdrawing, you should mention
this to your advisor during your advisement
session.
- You may want to discuss any problems you are
having that could affect your academic
performance. Your advisor may be able to help.
- Think about the number of credit hours you would
like to take this semester. Remember, you have
to take at least 12 credit hours to be
considered a full time student.
- Look over the semester schedule and be thinking
about the courses you might like to take. If you
find some you like, write them down, including
the Course Reference Numbers, and bring them
with you to your advising session. It is also a
good idea to make an alternate schedule, in case
some of the classes you want are full.
- Be sure to check the DSC catalog and see if the
courses you want to take have prerequisites. If
they do have prerequisites, have you fulfilled
them?
- You should also make sure that the classes you
want to sign up for will count toward your
degree. Taking classes that are not listed on
your program of study could affect your
financial aid.
- Last, but not least, be on time. Often, the
advisors have appointments scheduled both before
and after your appointment. Arriving late may
result in your session being shortened. You and
your advisor will not have adequate time to
schedule your classes and address any questions
or academic issues you may have.
