Four-Year Career Development Plan
Academic Resources offer a wide range of services to help students identify the
program of study which is right for them and best matches their future career
goals. Services are also available to assist students with the job search process
as they prepare to graduate. The following plan is provided to enable students to
reach their fullest potential.
Freshman Year “Increase
Awareness”
• Assess career interests through various inventories (The SDS, MBTI,
Sigi3, GCIS, etc.) administered through
Academic Resources.
• Enroll in the Academic Success class (COLL 1101) to enhance your study skills.
• Attend workshops and/or view career-related videos to increase your awareness of possible career interests.
• Get to know your professors who can be valuable resources during your personal and professional growth while in college.
• Begin your personal development by honing your skills and abilities through campus and community involvement.
Sophomore Year
“Assess and Explore”
• Confirm your program of study. Schedule an appointment with
Academic Resources if you are still unsure.
• Explore opportunities to gain experience related to your major. Attend a Cooperative Education Information Session.
• Continue to develop associations with professors and staff.
• Prepare your résumé. Attend Academic Resources résumé writing workshop.
• Continue your involvement in campus and community activities.
Begin networking with employers through attendance at the Career Fair.
• Complete the entry process for bachelor degree programs.
Junior Year
“Test Career Options”
• Begin to take leadership responsibilities in campus and community activities.
• Gain experience related to your major through a co-op position, internship, part-time job or volunteer experience.
• Continue to attend career-related workshops and career fairs.
• Explore graduate or professional school options.
• Continue to update your résumé and refine your interviewing skills.

Senior Year
“Job Search"
• Meet with your academic advisor to confirm that you have met all of the requirements for graduation.
• Contact Academic Resources to discuss your job search campaign and schedule a mock interview.
• Identify and contact professors and employers you can use for references.
• Utilize the resources in Academic Resources to research target companies.
• Attend regional and campus career fairs.
• Register online with http://www.GeorgiaHire.com.
• Mail updated cover letters and résumés to prospective employers.
• Report all job offers and final acceptance to Academic
Resources.
