Counseling and Career Services provides services to Dalton State faculty and staff in the following ways:
- Outreach
We are available for classroom presentations or departmental meetings on topics such as counseling services, career counseling, stress management, test anxiety, assertiveness, depression, and more. We can tailor presentations for your purposes if given enough lead-time. Please keep in mind there is high demand for counseling services. Presentations need to be booked as far in advance as possible.
- Consultation
We are available to consult with faculty and staff, campus groups, and organizations, administrative offices, and others who may be concerned about issues affecting the personal and academic well-being of students. We can assist with student crises, help to assess a difficult situation, facilitate interventions, identify resources, and make referrals where appropriate. If you have questions or concerns, please call (706) 272-4429.
- Referral
As a Dalton State faculty or staff member, students may come to you for advice or assistance with personal concerns. There will be times when you believe it is appropriate to recommend that the student seek assistance with Counseling and Career Services. To make a referral, please ask the student to call and make an appointment. If the student is agreeable, allow him or her to use your phone or walk the student over to Academic Resources on the lower level of the Pope Student Center.
If it appears that the student is in crisis and needs immediate assistance, consider accompanying the student yourself.
Our offices are open: Monday & Wednesday, 8 am - 6 pm, and Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday 8 am - 5 pm.
If you have a crisis with a student after business hours, contact Public Safety at (706) 272-4461, and they will contact the on-call counselor.
