FAQs 1. What is the DSC ID number and what is it used for?
To reduce the risk of identity theft, Dalton State College will cease to use the SSN for identification purposes and has instead adopted a generic DSC ID number. The new DSC ID number is a 9-digit number. To distinguish it from an SSN or any other ID number, the first digit will always be 9. Faculty advisors may register students using this number. All inter-office forms and reports that previously included SSNs for identification purposes will be updated to utilize the DSC ID number.
Who is assigned a DSC ID number?
All DSC students, faculty, and staff are assigned a DSC ID number.
How do I find out what my DSC ID number is?
Just click the “What Is My DSC ID Number?” link in the Banner Channel on the home page of the DSConnect portal (available beginning Monday, April 30).
New students, new faculty, and new staff will have their DSC ID number pre-printed on their ID Card. Students, faculty, and staff who have already been issued an ID card may have their ID card updated with a permanent label by visiting any of the following offices:
-
Academic Advising Center
-
Business Office
-
Enrollment Services
-
Financial Aid
-
Roberts Library
-
Student Activities
When will the new DSC ID number be available?
DSC ID numbers can be looked up using the “What Is My DSC ID Number?” Banner link beginning Monday, April 30. Faculty advisors can begin registering their advisees with this number on Monday, May 14. Returning students may have their existing ID Card updated with a permanent label beginning Monday, June 4.
Is my DSC ID number required to log into DSConnect or access Banner?
No, it is not. Students, faculty, and staff will continue to log into DSConnect using their usual login names and passwords. However, faculty advisors that are accustomed to entering their advisee’s SSN when registering, will now enter the DSC ID instead. Of course, advisors may also continue to select their advisee from their pull-down advisee list or search by name.
As a temporary transitional measure, advisors may select their advisee by entering their SSN or DSC ID number through Fall 2007 Registration. Beyond that period, direct ID entry will be via DSC ID number only.
Will SSNs continue to be collected?
Yes, but only by those offices that are required to collect and report this information. The SSN will not be used for any internal reporting or identification purposes.
