MISSION STATEMENT
The faculty of the Division of Education is committed to
providing excellence in the initial preparation of professional educators for diverse settings who are competent and effective teachers, who can bring diverse learners to high academic achievement and who are able to work toward school improvement. The faculty have developed the following mission statements which relate to the preparation of professional educators and a sixth related to professionalism of the faculty:
Mission Statement # 1: The Unit is committed to preparing professional educators who are
knowledgeable, culturally responsive and responsible and appreciative of diversity among learners. This mission statement parallels Dalton State College’s commit to excellence and responsiveness stated in the Dalton State College purposes.
Mission Statement # 2: The Unit’s second mission statement is to foster innovative student-focused learning communities by preparing professionals who are
competent in their chosen area of academics, and able to integrate subject material content with pedagogy, supports Dalton State College’s priority of
promoting high levels of student learning.
Mission Statement # 3: Preparing professional educators who are
leaders and partners in school improvement and, educational advocates is the Unit’s third mission statement and supports Dalton State College’s commitment to
collaborative relationships in order to enhance services to citizens of the service area, as well as providing leadership and development opportunities for its graduates.
Mission Statement # 4: The Unit’s fourth mission statement of developing and preparing professionals who are
able to use technology to enhance teaching and learning
is aligned with Dalton State College’s commitment to providing the technology to advance educational purposes.
Mission Statement # 5: The Unit’s fifth mission statement states a commitment to prepare professional educators who are committed to
self-assessment and reflection which supports Dalton State College’s purpose of a commitment to
enhance institutional effectiveness.
Mission Statement # 6: The Unit is further committed to the mission of
empowering a faculty committed to teaching and learning, as well as the enhancement of research interests and professional development. This sixth mission statement is supported by the institution’s purpose of
encouraging faculty scholarly pursuits and a responsibility to address local needs through applied scholarship.
