1. How can college students save money on
transportation?
Carpooling helps lots of college students save money on transportation.
If only two people ride together, then the price of travel is cut in
half. Taking the bus can economize, too because bus tickets usually cost
just a dollar or two, compared to the $15,000 it costs to own a car
every year!
It's also much cheaper to drive a car that gets better gas mileage.
Pickup trucks an SUVs are gas-guzzlers, so avoid them if at all
possible.
Drive 1,200 miles per month in a car that averages 18 miles per gallon,
and you'll spend $233 per month (at $3.50 per gallon). Drive a car that
averages 25 miles per gallon, and you'll spend $168 per month -- a
savings of $65 per month, or $780 per year. |

2. How can
college students save money on housing?
1. Living on campus can sometimes be less expensive that
living off campus. Living off campus can sometimes incur
hidden expenses like deposits, furniture, utility bills,
cleaning supplies, and travel costs that you wouldn’t have
to worry about if you lived on campus. 2. During the
winter months, put on a sweater inside of cranking up the
heat. During the summer months, turn on a fan instead of the
air conditioning. You’ll save a lot on your electricity
bills.
3. Turn off and unplug electric appliances when not in
use. Phone, MP3 and PDA chargers
in particular still consume electricity even if you’re not
using them.
4. If you have a roommate, discuss how you will divide
the housing expenses (rent, utilities, food, etc.) well in
advance.

3. How can
college students save money on clothing?
-
Pick your stores ahead of
time. Call them first to see what kind of sale
they are having. Then, head out for the day.
-
Upon arrival, head for the
clearance racks. This is where you should always
begin. Look for the staples. A gray
skirt, khaki shorts, black slacks. Then,
look for matching shirts. Don't overspend. I was
able to pick up a GAP skirt for 9.00, polo shirt
for 3.50. Be tenacious.
-
Once you have finished with
the clearance racks, head to the regular sale
aisle and see what they have to offer. Be
thorough. Things are put back on the wrong racks
quite often and you may find a gem.
