Steps 2001 From June 11 to July 12, thirty-seven bililngual middle and high school students from Dalton Public Schools attended test prep classes at Dalton State College. Dr. Monte Salyer, ESL instructor at Dalton State, and Judi Pontonio, ESOL coordinator at Dalton High, supervised. The five classroom instructors were Paige Robertson, Sarida and Ed Hoy, Daphne Jackson, and Amanda Hawkins. The ESOL students took test prep classes in English, history, math, and science. The program was funded by the Hispanic Outreach Project of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. Maria Guijon, pictured at front right, along with eleven other students who benefited from the first summer program, went on to graduate from Dalton State College. |
