Course Learning Objectives
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SCIENCE
The Department of Social Sciences assists students
in developing an ability to acquire data, understand relationships, process
information, draw conclusions, and critically evaluate issues related to the
society and culture of the United States and the world at large. To achieve
these aims, the Department offers courses that support the College’s various
associate and baccalaureate programs. These courses include offerings in
anthropology, criminal justice, geography, history, political science,
philosophy, psychology, and sociology.
STUDENTS LEARNING
OUTCOMES
1. Students will demonstrate the ability to
articulate and analyze perspectives and values of diverse cultural groups and their historical experiences in the United States. 2. Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze
origins of and solutions for social problems, particularly in relation to
racism, sexism, poverty, and crime. 3. Students will demonstrate
the ability to analyze origins of and solutions for social problems,
particularly in relation to alcohol, drugs, work, and family life.
