Biography:
Dr. Lynn Murphy is a native of Knoxville, TN. He has lived in the Dalton/North Georgia area since 1973. Prior to coming to DSC, he has served as a classroom teacher, teacher evaluator, assistant principal, principal, director of fine arts, director of student services, director of human resources, and interim assistant superintendent. He previously served at the college level, teaching part time for Reinhardt College, Brenau University, University of West Georgia, and Dalton State College.
Dr. Murphy's wife, Betty, is a retired elementary gifted teacher. The Murphys have two children. Andrea Murphy Adams is married to Jon Adams (band director at North Murray High) and is the elementary music teacher at City Park Elementary. They have three children: Abby, Aaron and Andrew. Julie Murphy Scoggins is married to Chris Scoggins (deputy for Whitfield County Sheriff's Office) and is a high school English teacher at the Whitfield County Career Academy. They have two children, Nathan and Braden.
The Murphys are actively involved in their church, Church on the Hill, where Dr. Murphy serves as organist. Dr. Murphy also serves on the board of directors for the O.N. Jonas Foundation.
In April, 2011, Dr. Murphy was awarded the DSC Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award.
