Biography:

Hola! Mi nombre es Roschelle Bautista. I am a native of Washington D.C. I earned my B.A. degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia in Spanish and Broadcast Journalism. I earned my M.S. degree from the University of TN at Knoxville in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Spanish/Foreign Language Education. I have studied abroad as a student in Madrid, Spain at Estudio Internacional Sampere and in Paris, France. I interned with CNN Telemundo Spanish News Network in Atlanta Georgia for one semester as a video-journalist and writer.

My ethnic background boasts a mixture of African American, Cherokee Indian and Irish American heritage. I am married to Antonio Bautista, and he owns a local Mexican restaurant called Antonio's Mexican Restaurant. I have two beautiful children, a son, Rico, 14, and a daughter, Jazzy, 10. I also have three stepchildren, Marco, 20, Alexis, 14, and Christian, 11.

I enjoy both the culture and grammar of Latin America and Spain. My teaching philosophy is a potpourri of communicative and traditional teaching techniques. These include old fashioned verb and communication drills, interactive communication in Spanish between student and instructor and student and student, repetition, a great deal of imaginative writing as well as proficiency oriented exercises. I usually encourage the use of online resources by my students. On each level of Spanish that I teach, I make it a point to integrate culture and grammar by having students watch videos, completing online grammar practices in class, taking excursions and affording students opportunities to read appropriate authentic literature, magazines and newspapers that are just a challenge level above what most students believe they are actually capable of.

I encourage anyone who is interested in learning Spanish to enroll in a Spanish course here at Dalton State College and begin one of the most rewarding and useful educational adventures ever.
