After graduating from Emory University with Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and sociology, I attended the University of Georgia where I received the Master of Social Work degree. I also graduated from Florida State University where I received the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Social Work. My primary area of specialization is social welfare policy and administration, but I am also a licensed clinical social worker in the State of Georgia.
I have been a social worker for more than 25 years. During my career, I have held a number of clinical and administrative positions in the health and mental health fields. I taught at Florida State University, Florida A&M University, and at Mercer University’s School of Medicine. In addition to teaching at Dalton State, I maintain a small private practice.
My academic interests include health and mental health policy and services and community action. I am especially interested in eliminating economic barriers to health care and in reducing disparities in health care provided to racial and ethnic minorities.
I was reared in Northwest Georgia, and my husband, Mark, and I live in Calhoun with a host of rescued pets. I have traveled extensively, including trips to Haiti and Africa. I enjoy art (especially painting and photography), reading, home improvement, and church activities.
