How will my financial aid be disbursed?

Financial aid is first applied to your tuition, fees, and book charges.  If your financial aid award for a semester exceeds these charges, you will receive a refund.  At Dalton State, financial aid refunds are issued through HigherOne, Inc., a one-card banking and electronic funds disbursement system.  If you are a new student, you will be mailed a HigherOne-issued debit card.  If you are a returning student, you should have already received your HigherOne card.

To choose your HigherOne refund option, visit www.EasyRefundCard.com and select from the following choices:

  1. Refund balance placed into your HigherOne account.  You may use your debit card to withdraw funds at an ATM machine on campus or at compatible off-campus ATMs, ($500 per day limit). Or you may use your HigherOne card as a debit card at merchants that accept Master Card.
  2. Direct deposit into an existing checking or savings account.

Note:  If you are a returning student and have not received your HigherOne card, please contact the Dalton State Business Office in the Westcott Administration Building (706.272.4435).

HOPE recipients:  The HOPE book allowance will be distributed to HigherOne, Inc. the week before classes begin for pre-registered students, with the exceptions listed below.  Because HOPE does not cover all fees, students awarded only HOPE funds must either 1) sign an authorization form allowing Dalton State to take fees not covered by HOPE out of the HOPE Book Allowance, or 2) pay the additional fee amount not covered by HOPE to the College Business Office prior to receiving the HOPE Book Allowance.  Log into your DSConnect account and select Student Financial Aid Funds Authorization from the Banner menu to complete this authorization form.

Students who did not pre-register, but have been awarded and disbursed HOPE the week before classes begin may charge books in the Dalton State Bookstore through the third day of classes.  All students, even those who did not pre-register, need to sign the HOPE authorization form on their DSConnect account.  Any credit remaining from the HOPE book allowance will be distributed to HigherOne, Inc. during the second week of classes or within two weeks of the student receiving their award notification.

Federal aid recipients (Pell, Academic Competitiveness Grant, SEOG, LEAP, Stafford Loan): Preregistered students awarded federal aid prior to the beginning of the term may charge books in the Dalton State Bookstore through the third day of classes (if a credit balance remains after tuition and fees are paid); remaining credit balances will be distributed during the second week of classes.  Students awarded federal aid after classes begin may expect financial aid refunds within two weeks of receiving their award notification.  Exception: Stafford Loans will not be credited to your DSC student account until funds are received from your lender.  See the Student Loan section for more information about receiving Stafford Loan funds.

Note:  Enrollment status for financial aid purposes is determined at the end of the Drop/Add period, and eligibility for financial aid is adjusted accordingly.  Audited and credit-by-exam (CLEP) classes are not eligible for aid.  HOPE book allowances and federal grant aid for C session classes are applied to student accounts the week before C session begins.
