Hispanic Scholarship Fund


The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is an organization supporting Hispanic higher education. The organization has many scholarship postings with various deadline dates throughout the year. Some deadlines are as early as November 1, 2008.

Jeannette Rankin Foundation

The Jewish Educational Loan Fund has been helping Jewish students in the Southeast attain their dreams of a higher education by granting them interest-free loans since 1961. These interest-free loans provide the final dollars that bridge the gap between a student's total financial resources and the cost of attending school. Must be: Jewish, U.S. Citizen or a legal resident, used in post-secondary training, undergraduate study or graduate school, must demonstrate financial need.

John Gyles Education Awards


The John Gyles Education Awards are available each year to students in both Canada and the United States. They are the result of a private, benevolent endeavor established in 1990. Full Canadian or American citizenship is a requirement. Awards are available to both male and female students for all areas of post secondary study. A minimum GPA of 2.7 is required. Criteria other than strictly academic ability and financial need are considered in the selection process. Selected students will receive up to $3,000.

The Foundation of the National Student Nurses' Association, Inc.


For current enrolled students leading to an RN to BSN, RN to MSN, or LPN/LVN to RN program. Must be enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours. Involved in student nursing organizations and/or community health activities. Also, document academic achievement and establish financial need. U.S. Citizen or Alien with US Permanent Resident Status/Alien Registration Number.


The Julian & Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship Fund


A scholarship to assist deserving high school seniors in their first year of college. Qualifications include: a complete application, prepare an essay on community banking, reference from one teacher. Awards are based on merit, not financial need.

National Federation of the Blind


To be eligible, students must be legally blind, living in the United States, enrolled in accredited universities here, and, if they are winners, must attend the NFB annual convention in July 2009, at which time awards are presented. For details visit the NFB website.

The Sallie Mae Fund offers several scholarships. The applications will be available in January of 2007 for the 2007-2008 aid year. The PFLAG-Atlanta Scholarship Program


The PFLAG-Atlanta Scholarship Awards are designed to recognize outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals; encourage continuing education for self-identified LGBT individuals; and foster a positive image of LGBT people in society. Eligibility includes: Identify openly as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender; demonstrate a history of LGBT or other community service or activism; be a current Georgia resident or use the scholarship to attend a school in Georgia; hold the equivalent of a B- or higher cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) for the past 4 semesters; mail the completed application and all supporting materials for postmark on or before March 31, 2009.

The Presidential Forum on Renewable Energy


A nationwide college student essay contest in which three college students will be named and awarded a $10,000 educational prize. The contest begins November 17 and will engage college students in issues of renewable energy, sustainability, and conservation. The contest is open to students who, as of January 1, 2008, are between the ages of 18-24; enrolled, full or part time, in an undergraduate program; and a citizen of the United States of America.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Be women currently residing in the United States or Canada;
  • Be women who have earned a high school diploma or their GED on or before September 1999;
  • Be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full- or part-time undergraduate course of study
  • Be attending the full 2009-10 academic year and receiving a degree no earlier than May 2010;
  • Have at least two semesters (24 credit hours or more) remaining to complete an undergraduate degree as of the beginning of the 2009 fall academic term.
  • Students who have previously obtained a bachelor's degree are not eligible to apply.

Ty Cobb Educational Foundation


Undergraduate students who are residents of Georgia, have demonstrated financial need, and have completed at least 30 semester or 45 quarter hours of academic credits with an average of "B" or higher in an accredited college or university are eligible to apply for Ty Cobb scholarships.

2009 Pauletta and Denzel Washington Family Gifted Scholars in Neuroscience Award


The primary purpose of this award is to mentor and encourage young, potential scientists and physicians to enter the field of neurological research.
