- Use one of GIL’s main search screens to find library materials.

- Keyword: use the three field boxes to enter main keywords. Be sure and select the appropriate drop down box (any of these, all of these, phrase). Also, if you use more than one box, select a Boolean connector (AND, OR, NOT). AND will include information from all fields, OR will include “either” keyword entered in each field, NOT will exclude a keyword entered in a field. The best way to narrow your search is to select a “field” that you want the database to include in the search for your keyword. You have several options but AUTHOR, TITLE, SUBJECT, TITLE/SUBJECT are some of the most useful. Be sure and ask if you need assistance.

- Exact Search: Use this search if you already have specific information about your search. Use the radiator buttons to select the appropriate field and then enter the information in the field box. Subject Heading searches require a Library of Congress Subject Heading or a MeSH Subject Heading. You can also “narrow” your search even more by selecting criteria either in “quick limit” or “narrow my search”. Be sure and ask if you need assistance.
