Circulation

• The Circulation Desk is where you go to check out circulating materials, renew your materials, pay for late, lost or damaged items, clear patron record blocks, get Course Reserve materials, get GIL Express and Interlibrary Loan materials, pick-up and pay for print jobs, purchase supplies. DSC students may also borrow wireless laptops for In-Library use. Please read the Circulation Policy for specifics on eligible patron types and loan periods.

Course Reserves

• To provide access to heavy demand items, faculty or library staff may place certain materials on Course Reserve. Items such as entire periodicals and reference materials will not be placed on Course Reserve because they do not circulate.  Students may pick up course
  reserves at the Circulation Desk.

• Reference Assistance is individualized help with a specific question or need. Reference librarians are available to assist you all the hours that we are open. Library staff are also very knowledgeable about library resources, computer applications, and general information about Dalton State College. You may call (706.272.4575) with a reference question or send a request for assistance to our Ask-A-Librarian service

Ask-A-Librarian

• GALILEO sponsors a virtual reference assistance service that allows you to e-mail your questions to someone at your home institution. If the reference staff cannot get to your question, it will be forwarded to other USG Reference Librarians.

Interlibrary Loan

• DSC students, faculty and staff may request books, periodical articles, and other materials from other libraries. These same patrons can also request books from University System of Georgia Libraries through GIL Express. Please see our ILL page for more information about this service.

GIL Express Loans

• GIL Express is a service being offered at all libraries within the University System of Georgia. This innovative resource sharing service allows USG students, staff, and faculty to access all eligible circulating materials at all USG Libraries. Eligible patrons can either initiate GIL Express loans as a “walk-in” patron or by initiating the request remotely through the GIL Universal Catalog. Use the GILUC to locate materials that you want to borrow. Click on the GIL Express Request link to initiate your loan request.

Learning Commons

• DSC students have access to the new Learning Commons.  This is a special computer lab
  located in the Library's west wing.  A Library staff member is available at all times to assist students with research or technical questions.  In addition to the computer lab students have free printing, and access to the practice studio where speeches and other presentations may be videotaped or just practiced in a private setting.

• DSC students may check out wireless laptops at the Circulation Desk.  These are for use only in the Library.  Students are required to have a current student ID and a Drivers License. The license is kept at the Circulation Desk until the laptop is returned.

Copying and Printing

• The library supports patron printing. Black and white prints are .10 a page and color prints are .25 a page. The printers default to front and back but patrons may reset the printers to single side printing if desired. Photocopies are .10 a page. We ask that our patrons read the United States Copyright Law statement posted near the copiers before making copies. Individual users are liable for any infringement. Library staff will be glad to assist you use our printers and copiers.
