Whether you’ve lived in Northwest Georgia all your life or are just now thinking of moving to the area, Whitfield County has plenty to offer. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains, Dalton has all the charm of small town life, with easy access to big city advantages. We’re located just 30 miles south of Chattanooga and 85 miles north of Atlanta. Downtown Dalton offers upscale shopping and dining, and the city’s parks and recreation facilities have been recognized as the best in the state.
As the largest metropolitan area in Northwest Georgia, Dalton is a regional magnet for manufacturing (yes, we are the nation’s carpet capital), retail, healthcare, and education. In fact, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce named Dalton one of four places in the country where business and education have joined forces to improve long-term educational performance.
Four distinct seasons make the climate in Dalton just right. Comfortably warm in summer and mild in winter, the annual average temperature is 60 degrees. We see a few inches of snow each year, and around 210 days of sunshine. Which makes fine weather for hiking, biking, or a leisurely walk across campus.
