The Lorberbaums founded Aladdin Mills, a Dalton carpet mill
which merged with Mohawk Industries in 1994.
The late Shirley Lorberbaum and her widower, Alan, who currently resides
in Florida, took an active role in the Dalton community when they resided
locally.
"My parents supported Dalton State for decades, so we are pleased that the
college has chosen to name the liberal arts building in their honor," said Jeff
Lorberbaum.
The Dalton State College Foundation recently received a $1 million commitment from
the Alan S. Lorberbaum Family Foundation. The gift was presented as a means to
provide enhanced educational opportunities for residents of Northwest Georgia.
"My parents always believed that education is vitally important to the success of
individuals and communities," said Suzanne Helen, who spoke on behalf of the
Lorberbaum Family Foundation. "The gift to Dalton State College reflects our
commitment to quality public education in Northwest Georgia," she continued.
"[The] college is delighted that the Lorberbaum Family Foundation has chosen this
particular avenue as a way of celebrating the lives and work of Mr. and Mrs.
Lorberbaum," said Dr. James Burran, DSC president. "We are immensely grateful
for their long-term support and ongoing generosity."
