Dalton State Foundation Awards 122 Scholarships

Dalton State Foundation Scholarships

The Dalton State Foundation awarded 122 scholarships to 115 students at its annual Scholarship Day recently. Donors and recipients were on hand for the festivities; scholarships were awarded for the 2012-2013 academic year.

A total of 50 scholarships were awarded to Whitfield County residents, including: Kala Elamparo, Arthur B.E. Lauman Scholarship in Nursing and Ronald S. Taylor Memorial Nursing Scholarship; Rachael Sneed, Beatrice P. & Emory B. Grant Scholarship; Albert Mathenge, Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship in Business, Joseph T. Baxter Scholarship, and Rotary Club of Dalton Scholarship; Li Wang, Bob E. Knisley Scholarship; Steve Griffin, Wilfredo Marroquin, Shelby McFarland, and Michaela Smith, Brown Industries Family Scholarship; Paul Barry, Buchanan Family Scholarship; Janet Hayes, Carlton Candler McCamy Memorial Scholarship.

Also receiving scholarships from Whitfield County were Courtney Chandler, City of Dalton Public Safety Scholarship; Sofia Mendoza, Dalton State Foundation Scholarship – Study Abroad; Marlon Romo, Kimberly Smith, and Krista Smith, Dalton State Foundation Summer Research Stipend; Tom Causby, Derrell C. Roberts Memorial Scholarship; Kayla Almazan, Dixie Hasty Kinard Scholarship; Manuel Aguilar, Nancy Carrillo, Diego Espinoza, Carolina Gomez, Sandra Lobos-Machuca, Elena Lopez, Oscar Ramirez, and Amairany Vidana, Goizueta Foundation Scholarship; Jesse Calderon, Hispanic/Latino Social Work Scholarship.

Other students from Whitfield County receiving scholarships included Matthew Borgen, J&J Industries Scholarship; Ivette Flores, Johnnie & Peter Bakkum Scholarship; Joshua Cavender, Jolly Family RETP Scholarship; Jordan Payne, Kate McMillan Daniel Memorial Scholarship for Teachers; Laura Betty and Aaron Smith, Kenneth E. & Dottie S. Boring Healthcare Scholarship; Shasta Ledwell, Kiwanis Club of Dalton/Dr. Earl McGhee Scholarship.

Whitfield County students receiving scholarships also included Jesus Carrillo, Karina Garcia, and Chris Withrow, Mayor’s Scholarship; Lynn Wilbanks, MWE Scholarship in Teacher Education; March Solomon, Norris & Billie Little Scholarship; Tiffany Brendel, Esther Huerta, and Molly Van Wert, Ratner Foundation Scholarship; Maurice Crowder and George Poole, Roy Barrett Scholarship; Cord King and Joana Rosales, Wells Fargo Scholarship; and Eloa Menezes, Dalton State Foundation Scholarship – Study Abroad, and Norris & Billie Little Scholarship.

Sixteen scholarships were awarded to Murray County students, including: Emily Parrish, Arvine Phelps Memorial Scholarship; David Munoz Torres, Bitsy & Stuart McFarland Scholarship; Dennis Njoroge, Brown Industries Family Scholarship; Jennifer Clark, Donald Edward Davis Scholarship in Environmental Studies; Annette Montalvo, Gibb Watts Memorial Scholarship; Sandra Gonzalez and Aurelio Jacobo, Goizueta Foundation Scholarship.

Other Murray County students honored with scholarships include Victor Soto, Ken White Scholarship; Emily Blackwell, Kenneth E. & Dottie S. Boring Healthcare Scholarship; Jade Mathis, Hugo Soto and Mandy Townsend, Murray Scholarship; Tamya Morris, Roy Barrett Scholarship; Melissa Clayton, Ruth C. Boyle Scholarship in Social Work; Paula Johnston, W.W. Fincher Scholarship; and Carlos Munoz, Walter M. & Fannie B. Jones Scholarship.

Thirteen scholarships went to students from Catoosa County; they are: Brittany Edwards, Brown Industries Family Scholarship; Lauren Marcus, Dalton State Foundation Scholarship - Accounting; Ariel Ackerly, Dalton State Foundation Scholarship – Study Abroad; Elizabeth Kennedy, Fincher-Loughridge Teacher Education Scholarship; and Loryn Hendershot, Dalton State Foundation Scholarship – Study Abroad and Kenneth E. & Dottie S. Boring Healthcare Scholarship.

Also from Catoosa County are: Katherine Brown and John Weldon, Kenneth E. & Dottie S. Boring Healthcare Scholarship; Denis Mustedanagic, Leon Bouckaert Scholarship; Michelle Clark, Minor Family Nursing Scholarship; Amber Stanyer, Northwest Georgia Chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs Scholarship; Jonathan Estes, Ryan Allan Acree Memorial Scholarship; and Kristopher Orr, School of Business Scholarship.

Walker County students earned a total of 12 scholarships; those students are: Samuel Ray, Brown Industries Family Scholarship; Josh Oliver and Kevin O’Toole, Dalton State Foundation Summer Research Stipend; Jensen O’Neal, Fincher-Loughridge Teacher Education Scholarship; Cortney Braswell, John A. Hutcheson, Jr. Scholarship in History; Ted Hope, Jolly Family RETP Scholarship; Molly Ramsey, Kenneth E. & Dottie S. Boring Healthcare Scholarship; Kyle Hendershot, Northwest Georgia Chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs Scholarship; Faith Stokes, Patricia McGuire White Memorial Scholarship in Biology; Austin Wallin, Robert W. Kinard Scholarship; Hilary Hicks, Stan and Janet Goodroe Scholarship and Tom Deaton Scholarship.

Among the 10 Gordon County scholars recognized were: Leyner Argueta, Carlton Candler McCamy Memorial Scholarship; Brenda Franco, Dalton State Foundation Scholarship – Study Abroad; Guadalupe Aldana and Adolfo Jaramillo, Goizueta Foundation Scholarship; Jose Vargas-Cruz, Rita Salazar Scholarship; Gloria Cronnon, Rosalva Moso and Lorena Murillo, Roy Barrett Scholarship; and Jose Garcia, Dalton State Foundation Scholarship – Study Abroad, and Goizueta Foundation Scholarship.

Chattooga County scholars recognized were Joshua Peppers and Beth Thacker, Dalton State Foundation Summer Research Stipend; Tyler Barr, Gibb Watts Memorial Scholarship; Russell Smith, James E. Brown Scholarship; and Katherine Fromm, Yvonne Hill Hawkins Memorial Scholarship.  

Four students from Fannin County received scholarships; they are Alexandra Abbott, Fincher-Loughridge Teacher Education Scholarship; Brett Ingle, MLT Scholarship; Eric Smith, Roy Barrett Scholarship; and Leatrice Weaver, Wayne E. Bell Memorial Scholarship.

Gilmer County students honored with scholarships include Tracey May, Azeez Shaheen Foundation Scholarship; Melissa Eskew, Kenneth E. & Dottie S. Boring Healthcare Scholarship; and Bruce Manning, RAHYE Foundation Scholarship in Nursing.

Andrew Morrell of Bartow County is the recipient of a Brown Industries Family Scholarship.

Darlene Pascuzzo of Cherokee County is the recipient of a Ratner Foundation Scholarship.

Jeffery Poston of Dade County is the recipient of a Jerry Phifer ’73 Scholarship.

Katelyn Humphrey of Douglas County is the recipient of a J. Donald Bowen Scholarship in Management.

Julia Koschulla of Floyd County is the recipient of a School of Liberal Arts Scholarship.

Karol Stroud of Hamilton County, TN, is the recipient of a Fincher-Loughridge Teacher Education Scholarship.

Sarah Nichols of Jackson County is the recipient of a George L. Jones Scholarship in History.

Jennifer McCollum of Monroe County is the recipient of a Mayor’s Scholarship.

Amber McCarter of Union County is the recipient of a Kenneth E. & Dottie S. Boring Healthcare Scholarship.
