Burran to Present Programs on ‘Southern Politics’
August 21, 2012
“Southern Politics” will be the topic of two upcoming programs to be presented by Dalton State President Emeritus Dr. Jim Burran.
He will speak at a Coffee & Conversation program in Chatsworth on Thursday, August 30, and at a Lunch & Learn program at Dalton State College on Friday, September 7. Both programs are hosted by the Dalton State Foundation.
“Georgia's 1966 campaign for governor proved one of the most interesting in the State's history,” says Dr. Burran. “This was the first time since Reconstruction that a Republican candidate emerged as a legitimate contender. It was this campaign that thrust future President Jimmy Carter into the limelight. And it was this election that put restaurant owner Lester Maddox into the Governor's chair.”
The Chatsworth program will be 7-8 pm, Thursday, August 30, at Little Rome Italian Restaurant; coffee and dessert will be served.
The Dalton lunch program will begin at 12 noon, Friday, September 7, at The James E. Brown Center at the north end of the Dalton State campus.
Reservations and advance payment are required by two days prior to the event and may be made by calling 706-272-4473. Cost is $10. Those with questions or who wish to know more are invited to contact the Dalton State Foundation by calling 706-272-4473 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
