Dalton State to Co-Host Healthcare Education Conference

Dalton State College, in conjunction with the Blue Ridge Area Health Education Center, Hamilton Medical Center, and Georgia Mountain Health Services will host a one-day conference for health educators Thursday, Oct. 18 at the Holiday Inn and Suites Conference Center in Dalton.

“Just as we have a need for great healthcare workers, we also have a critical need for the very best educators to teach and continually update healthcare workers,” said Dr. Charles Johnson, Dean of External Programs at Dalton State.

“The purpose of this conference is to provide teaching strategies, delivered by experts, that can be used immediately, whether in a school or health organization,” Dr. Johnson said, who added that the content of the conference is designed for new as well as experienced healthcare educators.

“The conference is designed to help clinical preceptors, faculty, and other healthcare providers improve their skills in teaching, coaching, mentoring, communicating, and evaluating students and staff,” he said. “Topics include important teaching tools for health professions, assessing learners, engaging multi-generational learners, teaching skills in different organizations, delivering effective feedback, and grading strategies.”

Speakers include Dr. Ralph Gillies, Associate Professor at the Medical College of Georgia; Ms. Denise Kornegay, Georgia Statewide AHEC Network Director; Dr. Christy Price, Dalton State Professor of Psychology; Dr. Vanice Roberts, Berry College Dean of Nursing; Dr. K. Raza Mahmood, Physician at Mountainside Pediatrics; and Ms. Jody Dennard, Clinical Nurse Specialist at Hamilton Medical Center.

Cost of the conference is $99 and includes lunch and Continuing Medical Education credits and Continuing Education Units for physicians and other healthcare professionals.
