The Farm to Partner with Dalton State in College Golf
October 17, 2012
In its ever-expanding roster of intercollegiate athletic offerings, Dalton State announces it will launch men’s and women’s golf teams in 2013, a year ahead of schedule.
“We were originally going to start golf in 2014 but we’ll be ready to go in 2013 with the help of Bob Shaw who has been kind enough to allow us to use The Farm as our home golf course and to help financially with all that goes into having a championship-caliber golf team,” said Dalton State Athletic Director Derek Waugh.
“The Farm is one of the finest courses in the country and already hosts one of the most prestigious tournaments in college golf,” Waugh said, referring to the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic held each September. This year, 15 teams from the SEC, ACC, Big 12, and three other conferences participated in the three-day, 54-hole tournament; The University of Texas was the overall winner.
“As we make The Farm our home course, our future golfers will have access to one of the finest collegiate facilities in the country,” Waugh said. “The chance to play and practice at the Farm will be an amazing recruiting sell for our golf program and it will give us a chance to be very competitive within a very short time frame.”
