Free Concert at Dalton State to Feature Chinua Hawk
January 23, 2013
Award-winning singer/songwriter Chinua (pronounced Shin-Wa) Hawk will perform in a free concert at Dalton State College, Tuesday, February 5, at 7:30 pm in Goodroe Auditorium of Gignilliat Memorial Hall.
“My show is very simple,” Hawk says of his live performances. “I’m not a dancer; I’m a storyteller and a dreamer. I share these things with you onstage. It is just that simple.”
Hawk has performed background vocals for and written songs with Wyclef Jean and has performed in the studio with Kanye West. His work has been featured on television shows such as “Joan of Arcadia” and movies including “First Sunday” and Dave Chappelle’s “Block Party.”
He recently released his fourth CD, “A Beautifully Complicated Life,” produced and arranged by Joseph Patrick Moore who describes Hawk as “a very gifted vocalist, storyteller, and gentle soul with a passion for touching and healing others through music.”
Hawk is a campus favorite having received awards from the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities for “Multicultural Artist of the Year,” “Best Cultural Fine Arts Artist,” “Performer of the Year,” and “Best Male Solo Performer.” He also bested more than 1,000 other bands to win the Billboard Magazine/Disc Makers Independent Music World Series.
The free concert is sponsored by Dalton State’s Office of Student Life. Seating is first-come, first-served.
