Dalton State Foundation Gives CRI Property to Dalton State Athletic Club
August 9, 2013
The Dalton State Foundation has given its Carpet and Rug Institute property on College Drive to the Dalton State Athletic Club, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports the College’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
According to David Elrod, Director of Institutional Advancement for Dalton State, the gift of the 15,000-square foot CRI building and the five acres on which it sits represents yet another investment in the College by the Dalton State Foundation, one that the Foundation is quite happy to make.
“The Foundation’s intent in purchasing the property last year was to give it to the College to use however it deemed most appropriate,” Elrod said. “The administration recently determined that housing the athletic program’s headquarters was the building’s best and highest use and asked the Foundation to consider this gift in support of athletics.”
“We are extremely grateful for the Foundation’s gift of the former CRI building,” said Athletic Director Derek Waugh. “Without this gift or the extreme generosity of the Mashburn Charitable Trust to sustain it, we would still be searching for a home. The support of private individuals and entities in and around this community continues to amaze me.”
The gift is valued at $1 million, which is what the Foundation paid for the property when it purchased it in July 2012.
“Dalton State’s entry into intercollegiate athletics is an exciting opportunity for the College and the entire Northwest Georgia region,” Elrod said. “The Foundation’s gift of this property to the athletic department is just its way of saying, ‘Go Roadrunners.’”
