Roadrunners Consider Conference Options
August 20, 2013
The modern era of Roadrunner athletics begins tonight in Central, SC when Dalton State takes on Southern Wesleyan University in women’s volleyball.
Roadrunners compete this year in the NAIA’s independent league and may remain there as athletic administrators consider conference affiliation. Dalton State’s application to join the Southern States Athletic Conference was declined, according to Athletic Director Derek Waugh.
“Our understanding is the SSAC expanded beyond their comfort zone with the addition of four programs from the now defunct TranSouth Athletic Conference as well as the retention of two other programs that had been expected to leave the NAIA for Division II of the NCAA.”
“We are considering a couple of ‘Plan Bs,’” Waugh said.
