Dalton State College to present lecture by economist Jeremy Rifkin

Author and economist Jeremy Rifkin will speak at Dalton State College on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 pm in the Goodroe Auditorium of Memorial Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Rifkin, the founder and president of The Foundation on Economic Trends, will speak on the topic of “The Third Industrial Revolution: Greening the Global Economy.”

The author of 17 best-selling books on the impact of scientific, technological, and cultural changes on the economy, society, and the environment, Rifkin speaks frequently before business, government, labor, and civil society forums around the world.

“Dalton State is very fortunate to have Jeremy Rifkin as a guest lecturer, especially now that interest in greening the economy seems to be growing both nationally and internationally,” says Jane Taylor, Director of Public Relations at Dalton State.

“Over the past 35 years, Mr. Rifkin has spoken to groups at many of the world’s leading Fortune 500 companies and at more than 300 colleges and universities in dozens of countries.”

He is the author of such bestselling books as The Hydrogen Economy, The Age of Access, The Biotech Century, and The European Dream: How Europe’s Vision of the Future is Quietly Eclipsing the American Dream.

Rifkin earned a degree in economics from The Wharton School of Business and a degree in international affairs from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He has been a fellow at the Wharton School’s Executive Education Program at the University of Pennsylvania since 1994 and is also a senior fellow at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland where he lectures in the Executive Education and MBA programs.

Rifkin writes a monthly column on  global issues which appears in many of the world’s leading newspapers and magazines, including the Los Angeles Times, The Guardian (in the United Kingdom), El Pais in Spain, De Volkskrant in the Netherlands, and many others.

He also serves as an advisor to the European Union on issues related to the economy, climate change, energy security, and sustainable development.
