Dalton State College Foundation Announces $20 million Fundraising Campaign

Dalton State College and DSC Foundation officials announced plans today for a $20 million comprehensive fundraising campaign.

“Fulfilling the Vision: The Dalton State College Campaign for Educational, Economic, and Cultural Advancement in Northwest Georgia” is the first-ever campaign in the College’s 40 year history.

At the campaign kickoff held today on the Dalton State campus, Campaign Chair Mrs. James E. (Sis) Brown announced that $15,416,920 already has been pledged toward the $20 million goal.

“Throughout the College’s four decades of service, the entire northwest Georgia region has expected it to grow and offer more and more degree options,” said Dalton State President James A. Burran. “Our Fulfilling the Vision campaign will position us not only to become a larger institution, but a better one as well, an institution that is even more responsive to the people we serve.”

Opening its doors in 1967 to its first 524 students, Dalton State today is home to more than 4,300 students from 26 counties in Georgia, four different states, and 42 foreign countries.

“If we are going to continue meeting the higher education needs of the northwest Georgia region, we must begin planning for the future today,” said Norris Little, Chairman of the Dalton State College Foundation, a non-profit organization that exists to raise private funds for the College.

Many of the campaign’s objectives can only be funded with privately raised gifts. Scholarships, land acquisition, professorships, and other initiatives cannot be funded with state funds.

The four primary thrusts of the campaign are strengthening academic programs; expanding the campus; enhancing student opportunities; and bringing the campus and community together.

“This is the biggest and most exciting project the College Foundation has ever undertaken,” said Burran. “We will remain true to our mission of serving as a point of access to the University System of Georgia, but we will also take great strides forward to the next level of our development as an institution.”
