Dalton State College will host An Evening with Chopin featuring concert pianist Joe Chapman on Thursday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Memorial Hall on campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the College’s Fine Arts and Lecture Series committee, the concert will feature selections written by one of the world’s most popular composers, Frederic Chopin.
The concert will feature two of Chopin’s most virtuosic etudes, the “Revolutionary” and the “Winter Wind,” and will conclude with “Andante Spianato” and “Grande Polonaise Brillante.”
Dr. Chapman has performed in the United States and eight foreign countries as a pianist, conductor, vocalist, and accompanist. He has presented numerous solo piano recitals in Georgia and throughout the southeast, including programs for public radio and television. Beyond his expertise on the keyboard, Dr. Chapman is also active as an arranger and a composer. His music has been performed by choirs and bands from elementary schools to universities to churches and community ensembles in North America, Europe, and Africa.
As Professor and Coordinator of Music at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, Dr. Chapman serves as Director of Keyboard Studies and Coordinator of the NGCSU All American Piano Celebration. He also serves as the minister of music at Bethlehem Baptist Church and director of the Dawson Community Chorale. He has served as president of the Georgia Music Teachers Association.
