Dalton State will host its first ever Soccer Club match against
Emory University on Friday, September 25, at 7:30 pm at
Lakeshore Park.
The 20-member all male club team was formed earlier this
semester and will compete this fall against other college and
university club soccer teams, including Kennesaw State
University, Middle Tennessee State University, the University of
Tennessee in Chattanooga, and the University of Tennessee in
Knoxville.
Joseph Barragan is coaching the team, which is comprised mainly
of young men from around the area who played on their high
school teams or in soccer leagues.
“They’re having fun,” says Dalton State College Recreation
Director Garrett Burgner, noting that nearly 50 players tried
out this fall for spots on the 20-man team. “They’re actually a
very competitive team that’s doing a great job of learning to
play together.”
The Dalton State Club Soccer team lost its first match to
Kennesaw by a score of 3 – 1, but defeated UTC by a score of 2 –
1. Both were away games.
Burgner says the team hopes to host a tournament this year, in
addition to playing MTSU on October 4 and UTK on November 6.
