State College will sponsor a joint concert featuring county
music performer Radney Foster and bluegrass musicians The Lovell
Sisters on Tuesday, October 16, at the
Wink Theatre in Dalton.
The concert begins at 7:30 pm in the historic Wink, located at
115 West Crawford Street in downtown Dalton. General admission
tickets are $10 for the public, but Dalton State College
students with current I.D. cards will be admitted free of
charge.
“This is the first time the College has sponsored a joint
concert with performers of this caliber, who have made and are
making a name for themselves in the country music and bluegrass
genres,” says Jane Taylor, Director of Public Relations at
Dalton State.
“Both sets of performers share a reputation for putting on
really great shows, so fans of either group will likely end up
being fans of the other.”
The Lovell Sisters, who will appear first, are accomplished
instrumentalists who play the mandolin, fiddle and dobro. Known
for their “heavenly harmony,” Jessica, Megan, and Rebecca Lovell
grew up in Calhoun, Georgia, where they began taking lessons in
classical violin and piano at age five. All three were members
of string quartets and youth symphonies and sang frequently in
their church in their choir and as a vocal trio.
Discovering a love for bluegrass music, the girls developed
their own repertoire of songs, many of which were written by
band member Josh Miller. In 2005, they won National Public
Radio’s 2005 National Talent Competition on Garrison Keillor’s A
Prairie Home Companion, and in 2006, Rebecca won first place in
MerleFest’s International Mandolin Competition .
Texas native Radney Foster, formerly of Foster and Lloyd, became
a solo artist in 1991 with the debut of his Del Rio 1959 CD.
Known for being an accomplished songwriter, Foster has written
songs that have been performed by many of country music’s
biggest stars, including “Rainin’ on Sunday,” made famous by
Keith Urban, “A Real Fine Place to Start,” recorded as the title
song on one of Sara Evan’s recent CDs, and the Dixie Chicks’
rendition of “Godspeed.”
Foster’s hits include “Nobody Wins,” “Just Call Me Lonesome,”
and “Easier Said than Done,” and his crowd favorites include
“I’m In,” “Texas in 1880,” and “Folding Money.”
Tickets will be available at the door on the night of the show
or can be purchased or reserved before the event by calling the
College’s Student Activities Office at 706-272-4428.
