General
How can I adjust the size of the text in my web browser?
If you are using Internet Explorer, click on "View" in the menu bar at the top of the page. Scroll down to the "Text Size" and then select and option for a smaller or larger text size.

If you are using Netscape Navigator, click on "View" in the menu bar at the top of the page. Click on "Increase Font" to enlarge the text or click on "Decrease Font" to shrink the text size.

Should students save files on computers?
No, the computers are periodically wiped and reloaded so that they will be faster and updated, so if a file is save on a computer rather than a 3½ floppy diskette there is a 50/50 chance it will be on there the next day.

I can't save my file on a floppy diskette, what should I do?
Your disk may not be formatted for Windows XP, which is what we use campus-wide. If the disk is blank or you don't mind losing the current information that is on the disk, then format the disk by going to "My Computer", right click on the "3½ Floppy" drive icon and then select "Format.." a new window should pop up just press the "Start" button in the window to begin the formatting process.

Can I install my software in the lab?
Unfortunately we have had to disable the ability to install software on the computers because of abuse that this caused the machines. If you need certain software for a class that is not loaded on the computer contact OCIS for details.

Why does the computer not come on?
Try pressing the power switch on the front of the computer, if that doesn't work and there has been a power surge since the last time you used the computer look on the back of the computer for a on/off toggle switch and make sure the "|", the 1,  or the line is pressed in.
 
Where is the projector remote in the classroom?
If a remote is not to be found it was most likely misplaced or taken back to someone's office by accident. If you cannot find it then it may have been stolen, contact OCIS for information about obtaining another one. If the projector is one of the newer models, then the remote should be attached to the whiteboard and sitting in the tray.

Who should I call if the printer doesn't work?
Call OCIS at ext. 2611, please do not call OCIS staff individually call the front desk so your call can be routed to the proper staff member.

What do I do if the projector in my classroom doesn't come on?


I have checked out an Ultralight set (notebook computer, projector combo). How do I hook all the parts together?

PowerPoint vs. Projector.
PowerPoint is an program where as a Projector is a physical device. When calling OCIS if the projector isn't projecting your PowerPoint presentation please say that the projector isn't working, otherwise we may send the wrong person to fix the problem.
Banner
I wish to change my Banner Web pin that was assigned to me, how can I do this?
First, log into the Banner Web.

Secondly, Click on the "Personal Information" link.

Third, click on the "Change PIN" link.

Fourth, Enter in your old pin that got you into the system into the "Enter Old PIN:" box and then enter a new 6 digit number into the "Enter New PIN:" and re-confirm this new pin by entering it into the "Re-enter New PIN:" box and then click on he "Change PIN" button.

Why can't I log into Banner at 2 a.m.?
During this time period Banner is shutdown so that the databases can be backed up. Banner goes back online at 7 a.m.
Email (Eudora / Webmail)
My Eudora mailboxes have disappeared, how can I get them back?
At the top of the screen click on the word "Tools" then click on the word "Mailboxes". The mailboxes should return, if not, your Eudora may need to be re-installed, contact OCIS.

When starting Eudora, I get a message stating, "K:\Eudora is not found or is not writable", what is going on?
You are not logged onto the Novell server correctly, please restart your computer and once you get logged back in, try to start Eudora. If the problem persists, contact OCIS.

In Eudora, how can I move multiple email messages into another mailbox? Is there a faster way than transferring one at a time?
Hold the CTRL key down on the keyboard and click one on each message to highlight the selections.

Once you are finished, click on the word "Transfer" at the top of the screen and then click on the word "Dominant" and the select which mailbox to move the messages to.

How can I setup my email so that I keep a copy of every email I send?
If you are a Eudora User, copies of all emails that are sent are stored in the "Out" mailbox.

If you are a Web Mail user, your account should be setup to store copies of all emails sent in the "Sent" mailbox. If you wish to change were the copies go, just click on the "Options" link and then click on the "Folder Preferences" link.

Next, under the Special Folder Options, use the pull-down boxes to choose which mailbox you would like to use for sent messages.

How can I setup a distribution listing of email addresses in my address book in Web Mail?
First, click on the "Addresses" link at the top of the page.

Secondly, click on the "Add Address" at the top of the page or scroll to the bottom of this page to access the boxes for text entry.

Third, enter any nickname you'd like for this list into the boxes labeled "Nickname:", "First name:", and "Last name:".

I accidentally deleted a message I wanted to keep, how can I get it back?
For both Eudora and Web Mail take a look in the TRASH mailbox. There should be a copy of it in this mailbox. However, please remember that this mailbox is emptied for all users at 2:00 a.m. every Sunday

My friends and family have sent me attachments with screen savers, movies and photos, why haven't I received them?
There maybe multiple reasons for this. Due to the large number of viruses spreading via email attachments, the email server automatically blocks any message with attachments that have extensions, .exe, .bat, .vbs, .scr, .pif, .mov, .mpeg as well as additional extensions that are notoriously associated with virus writers.

Also, there is a size limit to an email message that the server will accept. It has been setup to prevent any email with a very large attachment or numerous attachment from being received.

Even though email is not actually designed to be a file transfer method, it is used for this anyway. Have your friends/family compress/zip the files so that the files make it through the filter.

I wish to change my email password, how can I do this?
At this time, we do not have an interactive way to change the email password, If you would like to change your email password, contact OCIS for information.

I tried to send an email using Eudora and received and error. The garbled address that it complains about is not where I tried to send it. What's going on?
The shared address book that Eudora uses has probably changed since you started Eudora and it is now confused Exit Eudora and start Eudora again. You should be able to see your message.

Using Eudora I tried to send an email to a group and received and error that one of the addresses is invalid. Do I need to resend the message to everyone in the group or just the person with the invalid address?
In Eudora you must re-send the message to everyone. It will not send mail to anyone in your group if it cannot send to everyone.
FrontPage
How do I edit my website?
First, you'll need to contact the Web Administrator at ext. 2611 to get your username and password setup if you don't already have one.

Second, open up Microsoft FrontPage, if it prompts your for a pass work go to the next step. If it doesn't prompt you for a password then go to "File", then "Open Web..." here you will need to type you're full web address, http://www.daltonstate.edu/faculty/*******/ (the asterisks(*) will be replaced with your first initial of your first name and your complete last name) then press the "Open" button.

Third, a window asking for your username and password will prompt you before you can edit your page. This username will be your first initial of your first name and your complete last name and use the password you got from your web administrator. Press the "OK" button to login. REMEMBER passwords and usernames are case-sensitive.

Fourth, if the "Folder List" isn't showing up on the left side of your window, go to "View" then click on "Folder  List". Now all your files and folders in your sub-web will be listed in the folder list to the left of the screen..

Fifth, to edit a page just double click on it in the folder list and it will open for editing. You can create, delete, move, copy, paste, and rename your files using the folder list.

Which page is my homepage?
There should be a page named "index.html" in your directory, this is your homepage or the first page everyone will view when they go to your website.

How do I link to a page to another page?
Type then name of what the link will be such as "Syllabus" onto your page. Next, Highlight what you just typed, then right-click on the highlighted selection. A menu will pop up. Mouse over the "Hyperlink..." option at the bottom of the page and left click it. A new window will open. You can either scroll down and select the file you wish to link or you can type it in manually, if it is in your sub-web just type the file name and if its in a folder then the folder name as well, otherwise if it is a external link, such as daltonstate.edu or another faculty's page you need to type the full address, http://www.daltonstate.edu, or it may not find the page.

How do I remove a link/hyperlink?
Right click on the link and then select "Hyperlink Properties..." at the bottom of the menu a window will pop up. Now just press the "Remove Link" button in the lower right-hand corner of the new window.

**I cannot find my files or folders on my sub-web I can only see the page I am editing how do I get them back?
Click on the "View" tab then on the drop down menu find and click on "Folder List"

Network (Novell)
How do I get an account on the network?
Network accounts are given to only faculty and staff. In order to receive an account your division/office chair or secretary must submit a request to Terry Bailey requesting the account be set up.
Viruses
I think one of my files or folders maybe infected with a virus, how can I be sure?
Right click once on the folder or file that you suspect and then left click on the "Scan With AVG" option and the AVG virus scanner will scan the folder or file and alert you if a virus is found.

I think my entire computer maybe infected with a virus, how can I be sure?
Click on Start, then click on Programs, then click on AVG 6.0 Anti-Virus System. then click on AVG 6.0 for Windows.

When the AVG program launches, click on the plus sign (+) beside the Tests folder and then double-click on the Complete Test option.

A window will open asking what drives to scan, accept the default that is the C:\ hard drive in your machine and click on the Run Test button at the bottom left of the window.

The AVG scanner will scan all files on your machine for infection and will alert you if an infected file is found. Because this options is scanning all files on your machine, this process can take a while.

Banner
