EVACUATION for Campus Housing
WEATHER EMERGENCY
WHAT DO I DO IN CASE OF A FIRE?
- Upon discovering a fire, close the door to the room where the fire is located and immediately sound the building fire alarm.
- Call Public Safety at ext. 4461. Give your name, department and location of fire.
- If the fire is small, you may wish to fight it with a fire extinguisher. Always locate the fire extinguisher in your area and note its location.
- If the fire is large, very smoky, or spreading rapidly, evacuate the building immediately. Inform others in the building who may not have responded to the alarm to evacuate immediately. If the alarm stops, continue to evacuate.
- Take purses, lock file cabinets, and office doors upon leaving. Walk, do not run to the nearest exit. If you are disabled, yell for help to go down the stairs.
- When the fire alarm sounds, do not use an elevator.
- Evacuate to a distance of at least 500 feet from the building.
8. Notify either Public Safety or Firefighters on the scene if you suspect someone may be trapped.
EVACUATION for Campus Housing
All employees and students are responsible for responding to either an alarm system or verbal
command to exit the building immediately and proceed to the Emergency Assembly Point
(EAP). At the EAP, the Assembly Marshal for that building will be in charge.

not present when a building evacuation occurs, the on-call Supervisor performs in that capacity.
If both are present, they may work together.

emergency.
- Follow the instructions of the Assembly Marshal.
- Respect the authority of the emergency response personnel and the potential severity
of all emergency situations.
- Remain at the EAP until instructed to relocate or re-enter the building.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF ASSEMBLY MARSHAL:.
- Evacuate through the nearest safe exit and proceed to the EAP for that building.
- Gather information about who may still be in the building and/or the nature of the
emergency.
- Relay information to emergency responders.
