Admission
 
  Requirements

1. DSC Institutional GPA of 2.0.
2. Submission of and approval of application by the BSW Program Admissions Committee composed of social work and social science faculty. Students may obtain the form from the BSW program office.
3. Documentation of at least 50 hours of approved human service experience (See social work departmental criteria).
4. Submission of three letters of reference attesting to the student’s suitability for the social work profession: :: One from a non-relative who knows the student well. :: One from a former college instructor. :: One from a human service professional, preferably with a formal degree in social work.
5. Completion of the pre-social work major/AA degree at DSC or its equivalent at another accredited college.*
6. Submission of a statement of interest to the BSW Program Admissions Committee explaining his or her reasons for choosing a career in social work (300-500) words.

STUDENTS MEETING ALL THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS WILL BE ADMITTED TO THE UPPER DIVISION IN SOCIAL WORK AT THE PRE-PROFESSIONAL LEVEL WITH NO CONDITIONS.

A STUDENT MAY APPLY FOR ADMISSION TO THE PROFESSIONAL FOUNDATION LEVEL IN PREPARATION FOR COMPLETING THE DEGREE IN THE SENIOR YEAR. SUCH AN APPLICATION WOULD NORMALLY BE MADE NEAR THE END OF THE JUNIOR YEAR

* In the case that all requirements are met except those specific to the DSC lower-division social work major/AA in social work (A course in the profession of social work, a course in social welfare institutions, completion of one semester of second-year college Spanish, a course in introduction to sociology, a 50-hour human service experience), a student may be provisionally admitted to the pre-professional level of the upper division social work program, pending successful completion of such course work at DSC (with a grade of at least C) and documentation of the social service experience.
