The BSW program will seek to prepare generalist social workers who will be equipped to function in entry level positions working with individuals, families, small groups, organizations, and communities composed of diverse peoples in a variety of social service and health care settings under professional supervision. The social work practice skills and theoretical orientations to be used by these professional social workers are informed and guided by evidence-based research findings. These professional social workers will demonstrate the profession’s value system by exemplifying a dedication to the promotion of social and economic justice through an understanding of and commitment to social change for the benefit of the poor, the disenfranchised, and other populations at risk. A secondary goal is to prepare academically qualified students for graduate social work. Successful completion of the program may lead to advanced standing in many graduate programs of social work.
