The Chattanooga Symphony and Opera’s Chamber Orchestra will appear on the Dalton State College stage in Memorial Hall on Monday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Fine Arts and Lecture Series, the event is free and open to the public.
The program features 10 musicians who will perform pieces composed by Beethoven, Mozart, Wendt and others.
“The musical compositions to be performed are all from the Viennese classical era, especially the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,” says Steve Tonkinson, Education Director for the CSO, who says that people all around the world are celebrating Mozart’s 250th birthday this year with concerts and celebrations of all kinds.
“The audience who attends the concert on April 17 will truly be enjoying an evening of courtly entertainment from the late 18th century,” he adds.
Included on the program will be “Sextet for Winds in E-flat, Op. 71” by Ludwig van Beethoven; “Concerto for Flute and Harp in C” by Mozart; and selections from Mozart’s opera “The Marriage of Figaro.”
“All of this music was written for private performances for members of the nobility during the late 18th century,” Tonkinson says. “The Concerto for Flute and Harp” was written for the Comte de Guines and his daughter shortly after Mozart arrived in Paris in 1778.

Musicians include Robert Burks and Linda Pennebaker on the oboe; Robert West and Steve Tonkinson on the clarinet; Eric Anderson and Patricia Dusold on the bassoon; Gordon James and Erin Horner on the horn; Janet Hale on the flute; and Barbara Wehlan-Miller on the harp.
