Dr. Carol Brand, Assistant Professor of Education at Dalton State,
has been named to the position of Interim Dean for the School of
Education at the College, administrators announced recently.
Brand, who has had 34 years of classroom and administration
experience in the field of elementary education, will be assuming
the duties associated with overseeing the School of Education until
a permanent dean is named. The search will begin this fall.
“As a former early childhood teacher, special education teacher,
special education director, elementary school principal, and human
resource director in DeKalb and Catoosa County Schools, I am proud
to be a part of the faculty of the School of Education at Dalton
State College,” Brand says.

“The teacher preparation program at Dalton State has an excellent reputation
with area school systems. Our faculty is unsurpassed in their expertise in their
respective disciplines. And our teacher candidates complete a rigorous
curriculum and spend well over 900 hours in the schools, making them well
prepared to teach on the first day of school.”
Dr. John Hutcheson, Vice President of Academic Affairs, praised Brand for her
years of classroom experience and her familiarity with accreditation
requirements.
“Carol has had experience with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher
Education (NCATE) and with the accreditation process, and we are confident that
she will maintain the high standards that Dalton State has set in the education
program,” he says.
The former dean, Dr. Mary Edwards, has retired from that position but will
remain on campus in a teaching capacity.
“We are grateful to Dr. Edwards for her years of service to Dalton State and for
bringing the College to the high levels of respected achievement that it has
reached,” Hutcheson adds.
