Charles Johnson, formerly a professor in the Department of
Industrial Technology for the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), has
joined the administration of Dalton State as the College’s new Dean
of the School of Technology.
Johnson, a native of Florida, has spent the past 26 years at UNI
where he served as the Community College Liaison, coordinated the
Technology Education and Training major and the Graphic
Communications and Technology Management majors, and taught courses
in a variety of subjects at both the graduate and undergraduate
levels.
“Throughout my years in higher education, I’ve worked with educators
in a variety of programs that are similar to the programs that we
offer through Dalton State,” Johnson says.
“The School of Technology is positioned well for today’s world,” he
adds, asserting that “preparing people for life and for great
careers” will be his main goal.
Johnson earned his doctorate from North Carolina State University,
where his studies focused on occupational education and adult and
community college education.
“While working on my doctorate, I developed a deep appreciation for
adult learning and instructional programming that I carry with me
today,” he says. “I am also very interested in educational
partnerships and outreach.”

Johnson says that he will be meeting with his faculty and with community members
to determine which directions the School of Technology should take in terms of
future programs and offerings.
“We have a great group of faculty members with good ideas, and I look forward to
hearing what they have to say. And I look forward to seeing what additional
opportunities to work with community and business organizations will crop up
once I begin meeting with members of the local community.”
The School of Technology offers more than 40 associate degrees, certificates,
and mini-certificates in such areas as technology, health services, and
business.
