There’s no denying that parking has been an issue on the Dalton
State College campus for the past few years, but this fall, students
may find some relief from the approximately240 additional spaces
provided by the College’s new multi-level parking deck, located on
the west side of campus on George Rice Drive.
On Friday, August 14, the student parking deck will be dedicated in
a public ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception
hosted by the construction companies.
“In addition to the new parking deck, students will be able to use
the shuttle service again this year,” says Jodi Johnson,
Vice-President for Enrollment and Student Services.
“Several vans will rotate continuously between the Northwest Georgia
Trade and Convention Center and the Westcott Building.”
Shuttle service will be available from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Mondays through Thursdays. Students who are enrolled in Friday
classes should have no trouble finding a parking space on campus,
officials say.
Johnson encourages students to arrive early for class, particularly
during the first few weeks of the semester when congestion on campus
is at its peak.
“I tell students not to show up five minutes before class starts and
expect to find a parking spot,” she says.
“Enrollment is expected to be significantly higher this fall than
last year, so locating a convenient parking place might be a
challenge for those who don’t allow themselves enough time to find
one.” |
