Twenty-one students in Marge Shirilla's (Assistant
Professor of Social Work) first year
experience (FYE) class recently took the concept of service
learning to heart when they volunteered to create gift boxes for
children being sheltered by the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis
Center. The center is a non-profit organization which provides
temporary housing and other services for women and children who
are the victims of domestic violence. Pictured are some of the
students who participated in the project, which involved filling
shoe boxes with candy, toys, books, hats, gloves, and other
small gifts and then wrapping and tagging the boxes for
appropriate age groups.
