All new students are required to attend an
Orientation Session. Transient students are
encouraged to attend, but not required.
Reservations are required and can be made after you
have received an official Letter of Acceptance from
the Dalton State College of Enrollment Services.
Students can apply online or contact Enrollment
Services (706-272-4566) to reserve placement for an
orientation session.
Parents/ guardians are welcome to accompany
students, but in considerations of other
participants, please do not bring children. As we
try to best use the available space to serve
students first, please do not bring more than two
guests.
You may park in the visitor parking area in front of the
Westcott Building or any of the Student Parking lots.
Check in is at the Goodroe
Auditorium in Memorial Hall. Check-in begins at the
stated orientation time in your reservation.
To view a map of the campus,
visit:
http://www.daltonstate.edu/about/campusmap.htm.
Memorial Hall is between the Westcott Building and
the Liberal Arts Building.
Orientation times may vary. To
know how long the orientation for the scheduled date
you plan to attend, see Dalton State's Master
Calendar. To view Dalton State's Master calendar
visit the web-site at www.daltonstate.edu and click
on the Campus Calendar link on the left-hand side of
the web-page.
Orientation is mandatory.
If you do not complete the whole Orientation session
by either arriving later or leaving early, then a
hold will be put on your records preventing you from
registering for classes. You need to be sure you
will be able to attend the whole Orientation before
choosing your Orientation date. If you have to leave
during Orientation then a hold will be put on your
record and you will have to re-attend and complete
the entire Orientation at another time.
Students that attend Orientation will be given the
opportunity to meet students (both new and current),
faculty, and staff. In addition, students can
participate in a campus tour, learn how to search
for classes, and meet representatives from Financial
Aid, the Bookstore, Public Safety, and Student
Activities Offices.
All needed materials will
be provided for you. However, students not receiving
the HOPE Scholarship should bring some form of
payment for their classes. Students should wear
comfortable shoes for the campus tour. Be sure to
bring your license plate number for your parking
decal application and a Government Photo ID for your
Student ID.
You do not need to set up an appointment for
advisement and registration prior to attending
orientation. You will register for classes during
New Student Orientation or receive an appointment
for the near future to do so. If you are an
Associate or Bachelor's degree student who has fewer
than 30 college credit hours, or a transfer student
who has tested into two or more Learning Support
classes, please contact the Academic Advising Center
at 272-4458 if you have questions.
The orientation fee is
used to pay for operating costs of the orientation
program as well as for food for you and your guests
and your orientation T-shirt. The Orientation fee
previously has been charged to the student account
once the semester has started. Orientation fees are
nonrefundable. ** Please note: Orientation fees will
increase to $30 on July 1, 2009. Any students
entering the orientation system on or after this
date will be required to pay this increased fee
amount.
