National Public Lands Day
2009
Fall
Service Learning Trip
Sponsored by the Office of Student Activities
September 25,
2009 – September 27, 2009
September 25th – 27th DSC Office of
Student Activities – Civic Engagement and Service Learning
will be participating in the National Public Lands Day (NPLD)
event hosted at Carters Lake. Carters Lake NPLD attracts
the interests of individual volunteers, families, and groups
from a variety of community civic organizations and
participants of all ages from the local communities. Last
year, the work completed by volunteers at Carters Lake
during National Public Lands Day made a major contribution
to the preservation of the beautiful natural resources and
facilities. Over the years volunteers have donated their
time and efforts on a variety of natural resource management
projects that included the development of new trails,
restoration of wildlife habitats, beautification projects,
trail maintenance, improved visitor facilities, clearing of
vistas, and the annual lakeshore cleanup. We will be
outside for the entire trip and participating in hard manual
labor.
To participate, please read and fill out the
application form, available
online or in the Office of Student Activities-Civic
Engagement in Pope 113. Applications are due no later than
12pm on September 9th, 2009. Due to limited
space, all who turn in an application are not guaranteed a
spot so please fill out and return applications promptly.
