Biography
Professor Loughren has had a varied academic career. He grew up on a farm in rural south Georgia before doing his undergraduate work in History at West Georgia. He subsequently received an M.A. In History with a focus on the South at Valdosta State University. He then transitioned to an M.A. in Anthropology at the University of Arkansas specializing in Historical Archaeology. Finally, he obtained his Ph.D in Geography at the University of Oklahoma with a focus on Historical Geography and Political Ecology with regional interests in the U.S. South and the Caribbean.
