Biography

I attended the University of North Georgia (known as North Georgia College at the time), completing my degree in Biology. I attended the University of Georgia and completed my degree in Plant Systematics in 1989. Following completion of this degree, I worked as a field biologist for the US Forest Service and for a private company in Atlanta conducting wetlands delineations, protected species surveys, and floristic surveys as well as provided environmental impact statements for research areas throughout the southeastern United States. For 20 years, I worked in conjunction with Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School to create an herbarium housing nearly 2000 specimens of plants found in Rabun County, Georgia. My current research involves documenting the flora of Gordon County Georgia. I attended Berry College where I earned a master's degree in science education in 2009. Since that time, I have been teaching AP biology, dual enrollment biology for Chattahoochee Technical College, and occasionally human anatomy and physiology. I came to Dalton State in 2016 as an instructor for Principles of Biology I and II.
