Biography

Sharlonne R. Smith received her doctorate from the University of Georgia in Middle Grades Education . The focus of her dissertation work was a narrative study of relationships between middle class African American teachers and economically disadvantaged African American students. 

Before teaching at Dalton State, Dr. Smith was a middle school mathematics and science educator for 12 years in the metropolitan Atlanta area. Dr. Smith has been teaching courses in Dalton State's School of Education for teacher candidates working toward their Elementary and Secondary certification since 2017.  Dr. Smith also serves as a special events coordinator for the School of Education. Her current research interest includes exploring teacher candidates collaboration experiences with mentor teachers in professional development schools. Dr. Smith has extensive experience working in inner city and urban learning environments.
