Time-Lapse Video Shows Construction Progress of Mashburn Hall

If you’re curious about construction of the new residence hall on campus, now there’s an easy way to monitor progress.

A time-lapse video feed has been added to the Residential Life section of the new website (www.daltonstate.edu/new-housing). The camera will be in place throughout the duration of the construction of Mashburn Hall at Roadrunner Place, and it will take multiple photos daily, said Scott Bailey, vice president for Fiscal Affairs.

The video feed, which is currently about five seconds long, will continue to lengthen as construction continues. Right now it shows dirt being moved and preparations being made for pouring the concrete foundation.

“As you can see, the construction is moving along at a fast pace,” Bailey said. “There has been a brief slowdown due to the rain this week, however, they are still on schedule for opening August 2016. The next few weeks of construction will consist of pouring concrete for the foundation and flooring slab.”

The residence hall will have 365 beds and will have one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites with semi-private bathrooms. There will be laundry area on each floor, as well as common spaces, game rooms, kitchen areas, an outdoor patio, an outdoor fire pit, and a covered veranda.

The Georgia Board of Regents recently approved the name Mashburn Hall, in memory of the late John Willis Mashburn, who established The John Willis Mashburn Charitable Trust to advance endeavors that boost higher education and economic development.

Construction of the new residence hall is by Winter Construction, and the architect is Collins Cooper Carusi. Corvias Campus Living, a private partner, will manage and maintain the housing complex for 65 years.
