Dalton State to Host “Unmasque Your Pride” Homecoming 2019

01/10/19

Dalton State will soon kick off Homecoming 2019, “Unmasque Your Pride.”

The homecoming game will be Saturday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Dalton Convention Center against Mobile. Other events open to the community are the Rage and Roar Pep Rally on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in the lot behind Mashburn Hall on campus and Unmasking the Past Trivia on Friday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. at The Mill.

“When students go to games and see not only individuals from Dalton State, but the community as well, it gives them a sense of pride that they belong here,” said Brooklyn Herrera, coordinator for Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction and an organizer for homecoming. “They feel they not only belong to the College but to this community as well. As an alumna and former homecoming queen at Dalton State, I can say the sense of community that I experienced at events, such as homecoming, led to me calling this home. Homecoming is so special, and I invite everyone to come experience it.”

The homecoming game will feature the presentation and crowning of the court during halftime. There is another basketball game the week of homecoming, Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dalton Convention Center against Stillman. Tickets for both games are $6 for general admission.

The Second Annual Rage and Roar Pep Rally will give the community a chance to meet the basketball players and hear from Alex Ireland, interim head coach, while celebrating the team with a bonfire. There will also be lawn games and refreshments. The event is free.

A new event this year is the trivia night at The Mill, at 825 Chattanooga Avenue in Dalton. Hosting the event is David Elrod, director of the Dalton State Foundation, and Nancy Whaley, a former Dalton State homecoming queen.

Current students, alumni, and members of the community are invited to participate and celebrate Dalton State through trivia. The event is free, and tacos from Sol de Mayo will be available for purchase for $1 apiece during the event.
