Dalton State Continues Concert Series with Piano Recital

Dalton State’s concert series is returning to campus with a piano recital inspired by Beethoven’s 250th birthday.

Dr. Jerico Vasquez, professor at Shorter University, will perform the recital in commemoration of Beethoven on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be in Goodroe Auditorioum and is free and open to the public. Dalton State’s concert series moved off campus temporarily while Gignilliat Memorial Hall, and the Goodroe Auditorium, were under renovation.

As an artist-in-residence at Shorter University, Vasquez is the coordinator of the keyboard program and aides in piano pedagogy. He has performed as a concerto soloist, recitalist and a chamber musician in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Philippines. Vasquez has served as a judge and won many performance competitions and is a past recipient of the Ojai Festival’s Charlotte and Alvin Bronstein Award. He is a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honorary Society.

Vasquez attended the University of California where he received a bachelor’s degree in music and earned his master’s degree in music and doctorate in musical arts at the University of Houston. During his academic career he studied under Charles Asche, Ruth Tomfohrde and pianists Abbey Simon and Horacio Gutierrez. He received the Capitol Record’s Nat King Cole Memorial Scholarship and the University of California Regents Scholarship.
